CTN PODCAST, Changing the narrative

A podcast born out of an all too familiar frustration; navigating life as an aspiring creative. How do you pay the bills? How do you grow? How did you get anywhere in this city? Well, Duane Jones, Terrence Taylor, and Pete Hemsworth are set to give you a raw, unfiltered look at their journey. The trio’s new podcast, Changing the Narrative (CTN) seeks to shine a light on life as a creative and provide an open forum for conversation about various topics through their eyes. This is episode 13 and today is Feb28th Pink Shirt Day and having this day is important, and for one day we can wear pink apparel to stand up against bullies, but bullies are people too right? How did they become bullies? Why and when did they become bullies? Is it stress from family home life? Are their parents struggling with an illness or addiction? Are the children being neglected? Are the parents working hard to survive and pay the bills so they don't have time to be parents?…

Am I too sensitive? Aren't You?

Image
Am I too sensitive? Yes, I do take things personally for example when a person calls you fat to your face or when they laugh, and gossip behind your back and you find out about it, are you telling me you are not offended? Hurt perhaps? That is complete baloney! You hear that you have too much time on your hands and that you always need attention? I have never met anyone that didn't want or need to be noticed, but I hang out with entrepreneurs and artists, so we need to be seen, or the business doesn't work. Also most people I meet come from dysfunctional families, oh and every one of us came from one, whether we like to admit to it or not.
I try to incorporate kindness, mindfulness also integrity in everything I do. I am not the type of person who cheats and steals when I know the person needs my help, I am usually the first person to encourage and get people together. I hate drama, but I love it too! As Filipinos, we love our teleserya, and telenovelas (TV Dramas) What is li…

To create awareness and dialogue about bullying in schools and in the workplace. We urge the public to get involved and get their children involved in the conversation about bullying in the workplace, schools, and in life in general. Bullying can sometimes also happens at a party or a networking event and even at the grocery store. We all know it happens on Facebook and other social media where we refer to it as cyberbullying. The prize for the contest will be a prom dress donated by @Poshdresses, a team of a hair stylist, makeup artist, and mani, pedicure, and shoes for the night of the prom will be all donated by the community.  We are still in the process of getting all the sponsorships and hoping that if this story gets picked up by the media or the paper, that the community of Nova Scotia will get involved.  If you have experienced bullying or cyberbullying in the past and are graduating in grade 9 or 12 and are in need of a prom dress, then this is a platform for you. We are lo…

His first day of school

Image
Just weeks went by since my mother had passed and we decided during our visit here in Nova Scotia as we watched the sunset colours get more vibrant in the distance, almost the same shade of our local red wine from Gaspereau Valley where I grew up, that we would move back home here in Nova Scotia. The race to find the school in mid-August was on. Despite nearby schools, we decided to make a choice to drive them in town to receive a French immersion education.  Our daughter had already received and enjoyed the French immersion in BC where we lived and worked for 10 years.  Our son starting primary, was the most exciting event for a five years old and because he loved preschool in BC, he was excited to make friends in his new environment. Our daughter had a beautiful day full of stories and giggles of new friends. Our son kept his composure until he got in the car. He burst into tears and said it was the worst day and kids made fun of him, called him a girl and no one spoke to him. He t…

RESPECT anti bullying conversation

Image
Don't wait like we did, do something about it!  We thought that talking to the teachers and speaking to the principals that we were going to solve our son being bullied at school or our daughter getting a "prank" death threat automated voice phone call. We don't blame the teachers they are getting bullied themselves.
TIME IS UP and We Must SPEAK UP!  I must sound like a mother with a vendetta YES... NO, I do not, I just want to talk because communication is key. We actually talked about it quite a bit to everyone we met and expressed our views, but with so much tension in everyone's response, we just said hey let's adapt and assimilate.  Five years later...
We got angry, cried we fought and yelled and distanced ourselves from the nonsense that is archaic in this province. We dared not speak of religion, politics or our views about what we think of this friendly province. And now we were faced with "the letter." Our son wrote a devastat…

Ici Radio Canada, CBC interview  http://ici.radio-canada.ca/widgets/mediaconsole/medianet/7618087 It seems like million years ago since our last fashion show at the Atlantic fashion week in 2016 when this photo was taken (above). The winter 2016 collection was called "Ode to Nova Scotia," RESPECT NATURE by keikaikoadesigns.com It only feels like that because we were going through some upheaval in our personal lives. This year for 2018 we are calling our collection "RESPECT" this will be about respecting each other as human beings. That no matter what may be the color of your skin, sexual orientation, who you worship and what your gender is, this demands respect, compassion, and understanding.  That we are all connected, and we must unite for a better community and life for our future generation. Our collection "RESPECT" will consist of gently used clothing that would otherwise fill the landfill or sit at a thrift store, will be repurposed, upcycled, deco…
